So as I mentioned in my last post, I had a shoot today. It wasn’t anything huge, but it was definitely long. I shot from about 1:30 this afternoon until nearly 5; about 7 individual locations. Normally, this would be nearly impossible, but not for me! … ok it was only possible because I had an AMAZING assistant.
When I made mention of this shoot to Brandon Irby, he asked if he could tag along and assist me. I was using some of his equipment, so I was glad to have him come along. What I didn’t know was that this would be one of my smartest photographic decisions thus far in my humble career. Having an assistant was absolutely amazing. I was shooting a 70-200 2.8L, so there was usually some distance between me and my subject/lighting. Having Birby allowed me to keep looking through the camera as he graciously took my orders. He was moving lights, adjusting power, and helping me move my model without me ever having to lose the composition. This was truly my first shoot that I would consider 100% a team effort. I cannot take all the credit for the images I took today, because many of them would have been extremely difficult to produce on my own.
Birby, I’m sure you will read this, so THANK YOU my friend. This series is truly a collaboration. I can’t wait to get the opportunity to assist you in the future. I definitely owe you one.
Matt,
You are too kind.
I’m thankful for your friendship & continued input. I cant wait to see the finished images. You snapped some wonderful photos.
