Yeah, There’s a Plugin for That

We joke quite a bit here in the office about how many WordPress plugins there really are.  Currently in the WordPress Repository, there are well over 6,000 plugins for download.  Although I would not recommend all of them, there a tons of excellent plugins that can make your site do pretty much anything you want.  Of course, I have a few favorites.

Preface: I realize that two of the plugins on the list are written by a coworker of mine, Chris Jean. Funny thing is, I have been using his plugins since before I knew him.  They are amazing!

Billboard Ad Management Plugin- iThemes - This is my favorite plugin ever.  I use it more than I probably should.  It is probably one of the most versatile plugins you can get.  Although it is called an “Ad Management” plugin, it is really so much more.  I use it anytime I want images in a widget area.  On this site, there are two Billboard areas just on the front page.  It is used for my social icons, as well as my corporate sponsors.

Google XML SitemapsArne Brachhold – Everyone needs a sitemap.  Without it, search engines aren’t going to know how to organize your content.  Just because it says Google in the title doesn’t mean it doesnt work with more search engines.  It automatically builds, updates, and maintains your sitemap.  Good stuff.

WP-Easy UploaderChris Jean – I have to admit, I honestly don’t use this plugin as much anymore, but not because it isn’t amazing.  When I was still learning all the ins and outs of the web, this proved invaluable.  This plugin allows you to upload files without the use of FTP or SSH.  You can choose the path manually, or let it put files in the default Uploads folder.  It will even create paths you use if they don’t already exist.

I am always looking for a new plugin that will change my life.  If you know of one, please let me know.

  1. Chris Jean says:

Yay for Billboard and WP Easy Uploader. At first, it sounded like a backhanded comment towards WP Easy Uploader, but then I got over it.

Always keep in mind: “There’s a plugin for that.” The royalty check is in the mail Adam.

  2. Matt says:

Haha thanks Chris. I would never talk bad about WP Easy Uploader. If anyone out there is still using FTP to add files, get with the program and use this great plugin.

  3. Excellent article, bookmarked for future referrence
